It turns out that my KDE 3.0.1 complains when I set it to use ALSA (instead of auto-detect sound I/O method, set in Control Centre -> Sound -> Sound Server), with the message "device: /dev/dsp can't be opened (Sound protocol is not compatible)". So perhaps there is a more basic problem? This may sound stupid, but I don't know how to play a sample loop. The only way I can find to do this is to use Konqueror, but in view of the above problem, I obviously need a non-KDE method. But also, I don't see any option in alsamixer relating to "DAC/ADC Loopback". I also notice that there is an "SB Live" column, but it doesn't seem to be possible to change its blank setting in any way. > If you want, I can mail you my asound.state, although I can only > guarantee it works for two analogue speakers... I only have two analogue speakers, so I'd appreciate it if you could send me your asound.state.
