Is there anybody that knows how to make surround 40 work? I have posted
messages in the users and developers lists, but it seems that nobody has
an answer to the problem. Help please!

For the moment the only way to get surround 5.1(DTS, or whatever) on any
cs46xx based soundcard is to use an external receiver using the SPDIF
passthrow. However the SPDIF passthrow functionality is very unstable
and get very easily out of sync, probably wont work ....

Surround 4.0, just using front and rear spekears output should work
without any known HW issue. Then how to configure mplayer to use the
    outputs hw:0,0 and hw:0,1 dont know ...

Implementing functionality to have Center and LFE output working on the
Herc. XP card someday, it's possible, but still TODO ...
