Hi,

I can't see your problem from the data you provided but I have the same card
and it works great with alsa.

The difference to my config that I can see is that you are missing the snd
module. Here is my modules.conf:

# ALSA portion
alias char-major-116 snd
# OSS/Free portion
alias char-major-14 soundcore

## ALSA portion
alias snd-card-0 snd-cs46xx
## OSS/Free portion
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
##

# OSS/Free portion - card #1
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss

#####
alias /dev/mixer snd-mixer-oss
alias /dev/dsp snd-pcm-oss
alias /dev/midi snd-seq-oss

The bit after ##### is some stuff I took from the gentoo-alsa configuration
guide. I think it's devfs related so I'm not sure if you need it.

With this configuration, I end up with the following modules loaded:

snd-pcm-oss 38468 0 (autoclean)
snd-mixer-oss 13176 3 (autoclean) [snd-pcm-oss]
snd-seq-midi 3840 0 (autoclean)
snd-seq-oss 29312 0 (unused)
snd-seq-midi-event 3592 0 [snd-seq-midi snd-seq-oss]
snd-seq 41104 2 [snd-seq-midi snd-seq-oss snd-seq-midi-event]
snd-usb-audio 38080 2
snd-cs46xx 66804 3
snd-rawmidi 14560 0 [snd-seq-midi snd-usb-audio snd-cs46xx]
snd-seq-device 4304 0 [snd-seq-midi snd-seq-oss snd-seq
snd-rawmidi]
snd-ac97-codec 30756 0 [snd-cs46xx]
snd-pcm 64352 1 [snd-pcm-oss snd-usb-audio snd-cs46xx]
snd-timer 12008 0 [snd-seq snd-pcm]
snd 30284 1 [snd-pcm-oss snd-mixer-oss snd-seq-midi
snd-seq-oss snd-seq-midi-event snd-seq snd-usb-audio snd-cs46xx snd-rawmidi
snd-seq-device snd-ac97-codec snd-pcm snd-timer]
soundcore 4356 11 [snd]

Mind though that I have an additional card (USB-Midi) that is mentioned in the
output but I cleaned it from the modules.conf stuff I provided above.

It's a little odd, that you sndr module isn't used by anything. I've never
seen that before.

One little problem I have with the XFire is that after boot, the first loading
of the drivers initializes it in a way that all sound is distorted. I could
only fix this by reloading the driver once after the first load at boot. The
second time and every time after that, the card gets initialized correcty. I
was told though that this problem doesn't happen with all XFire users. So you
might be lucky and it works right away.

Hopefully I could help a little.

Regards,

Richard
