Hi Florin - I am running Planet with ALSA 1.0.1. (Fernando's cvs build). Our studio has two 1010's. Sampling rate switching works great, but I continue to see/hear noise levels on all inputs whenever I toggle to 96K (the noise level rolls off from IN1 to IN8). I have seen this issue mentioned once before on this list, but I don't think it has been solved. The same 1010 box shows no noise in windows. On recordings it sounds like a ground hum (again, not present on the same box in MS). > Can you control the channels with the provided utility? Yes. It seems to work as designed. However, I have been controlling studio-wide channel routing with an asoundrc or with JACK, finding the mixer somewhat limited (as it is in windows) though visually useful. With my asoundrc I am able to route individual sources to multiple outputs simultaneously, etc, something the mixer panel does not allow. > > What's in the Windows drivers that's missing in ALSA? (most of these are the mixer, not the driver) 1. Bass Management page and function 2. dB Metering values on the mixer LED's 3. Left/right LED's (part of me likes the single) 4. I could be wrong on this: does windows have a S/PDIF control page for AC3, etc. I don't use this myself. Things I would love to see above and beyond windows: 1. Editable labels on mixer (to label studio-specific routing) 2. Cleaner mixer layout (ins above outs?), no scrolling to see all channels 3. Separate panning slider rather than vertical L/R sends. 4. My 1010 mixer lacks per-channel master output levels (all you have a direct sends or "multimix", stereo only), multichannel routing requires a physical submixer for attenuation before the speakers. 5. Ability to route sources to multiple outs. I realize this is not "in harware" like the HDSP matrix mixer, but ALSA seems to handle it fine for me via asoundrc, so why not build it into the mixer's capability?
