A few weeks ago I upgraded KDE to version 3.2 on my
Gentoo box (800MHz P3) and now my audio plays
faster! However, I use XFCE4 for my window manager. I
have kernel 2.6 and I use ALSA. I have an integrated
sound chip on my Intel D815EEA motherboard, so I use
the intel8x0 driver.

I've searched high and low for a solution to my
problem; I haven't found one that works. I believe
it has something to do with a differing sample rate
between ALSA and my audio applications. I discovered a
temporary fix: I can run artsd with -r 48000 and then
have my apps use arts, but that's not a good
solution for me because of the audio delay and a lack
of support for arts in some applications. Also, artsd
consumes a good 50% of my CPU just sitting idle.

How can I slow down my sound to it's normal speed?

Any tips or suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
