don’t feel too bad – I was on a team living the dvcs dream with Mercurial and
was forced to move all of our source into TFS

Honestly, while I’m not a huge fan (especially for version control), TFS in and
of itself is not the end of the world – like any tool, it’s how you use it. In
my experience, the motives behind it tend to be the more concerning thing.
More specifically, where TFS looks really compelling is in its integration and
reporting capabilities. These aren’t inherently bad capabilities, but what
I’ve seen is that they paint a very false sense of order and security for
project manager types – and as a result, getting those reports becomes the goal
rather than driving the project.

To put it another way and echo what Michael said, a good project (at least one
that I want to work on) values individuals and interactions over processes and
tools. From what I’ve seen, orgs who are really strong TFS advocates appear to
reverse those values.

should I be concerned?

Yeah, sorry for the far too brief answer.

In my experience, TFS has always been a pain for dev teams and administrators
alike, and winds up increasing TCO over time. My biggest complaints are around
branching, merging, and reverting changes.

As far as reporting and tracking goes, maybe someone else here can recommend
some better reporting tools for your current source control tools.

You have to do what's best for your team, but ultimately, as an agile org, it's
important to remember that it's about individuals and interactions over
processes and tools. If the tools and processes get in the way, then...
