Hey again Bruce;

I solved this on my second Ubuntu 10.10 computer and now have a procedure
and a reason for the "issue".

I can walk you through the procedure, but it is based on pulseaudio getting
in the way and pulseaudio being used as the default open-java stuff. There
is a much quicker way of getting around things than messing with open-java
and amounts to a three step process to switch to sun-java's jre.

In short I added in a one or two extra alsa packages, and I am not sure this
is needed over a default install AT ALL So skip this preliminary step unless
doing the following three steps do NOT work for ya.;

1 - Enable ALL of the repos in synaptic except the source ones. This is done
as selected items on TWO tabs under settings>repos.

2 - Load up sun's java6 jre and (optionally) the plugins and fonts packages
(for browser usability).

3 - Run 'sudo update-alternatives --config java' and select the sun stuff.
(This is why you can keep the open java stuff around....)

Then you can check the settings with 'java -version'. And, if things went
well, run 'altosui' and try the voice stuff !!

Best regards;

- Bob
