This means the operating system reported an I/O error to Amanda. That,
in turn, could have been caused by any number of **hardware** problems,
none of which Amanda has any more knowledge of. You need to look at your
other system logs and see if they give you any better insight.
Some things it might be:
* The drive needs to be cleaned.
* You hit end of tape.
* The tape is bad and needs to be replaced.
* The drive is not properly terminated (if SCSI).
* The drive is broken.
* The controller is broken.
* The cable is broken.
and about a bajillion other things.

This message is just another symptom of the I/O error.
