It is a 120M, it is HP's "8GB" tape for the DAT8i model we're using.

What do they say on them?  For instance, 60M, 90M, 120M, etc?  As I
understand it (I deduced this just this weekend after you brought it
up) only 120M are DDS-2.

Amanda had no idea what it's writing to.  It just issues standard write()
calls until the OS/kernel reports an error.  There is absolutely no
magic going on.
