The "ip list" that Amanda refers to is the list of IP addresses that are
returned when the hostname is queried from DNS.  It is possible for a
DNS server to return a list of IP's instead of just one.  Amanda
searches the entire list for a match.

That's the IP address that the tape server's query comes from.  That is,
it's the "source address" of the UDP packet.  This address is determined
by which interface the server chooses to bind to when sending the packet
out.
