I had the same problem.  Instead, I used HIARC's jukebox driver for our
Dell
Powervault 120T on Intel Solaris 8.  It worked perfectly.  The jukebox is
available for either SPARC or Intel platform.  However, it is a commerical
version and it costs money.  We paid $795 for the driver.  It supports
almost all kinds of SCSI-2 robotic interface tape changer.  I wrote a
chg-hiarcjb script for use with Amanda 2.4.2-beta.  I haven't had any
problems with it so far.
