This is how I got it to work:

On the tapeserver, in the backup user home directory, put the file .amandahosts which 
should contain this:

oneserver.your.domain.com root
oneserver.your.domain.com backup
anotherserver.your.domain.com root
anotherserver.your.domain.com backup

... and so on.

'backup' is the backup user.

As you can see, I'm putting both root and backup on each server. I doubt this is 
correct in every sense of the word, but it works. I think I've replied once on this 
list to a similar queston, and I don't recall John commentin my post. I might have 
missed it though. Let's see if he says something this time.
