Please post your chg-multi.conf file. What version of Amanda are
you using?
Looking physically at the drive, or by writing your own unique label
on each tape and checking that way (I assume they are still scratch
tapes since you're still getting Amanda set up), which tape is loaded
for each of these commands (in this order):
amtape <config> reset
amtape <config> slot first
amtape <config> slot next
amtape <config> slot next
amtape <config> eject
(there may or may not be a tape loaded after the eject).
My first guess is that there are too many eject's happening and the
device is "double advancing", skipping roughly every other tape.
What happens if you load a tape (somehow) and them "mt offline" it?
Does that automatically advance to the next tape?
