Hi all,
I did try searching the list archive for an answer, but I had several
errors on my backup run last night and I'm confused as to the root of
the problem:
1.
These dumps were to tape daily-11.
*** A TAPE ERROR OCCURRED: [[writing file: No space left on device]].
2. (from the failure summary)
alfred.spo vinum/vol_data_logs lev 0 FAILED [out of tape]
3. (from the notes section)
taper: tape daily-11 kb 11217824 fm 87 writing file: No space left on
device
driver: going into degraded mode because of tape error.
Now, I'm using a Mammoth drive in an Exabyte library, with 20GB tapes.
The server is FreeBSD 4.3, with a holding disk of about 8.8GB.
Currently left on the holding disk is the full dump of alfred mentioned
above. The file on disk is about 6.2GB. From what I've gathered, the
"no space left on device" indicates a full tape, yet the statistics show
that only 33% of the tape was used. The output size for the whole run
was 12267.6 megs, but it only shows the tape size as 6625.1 megs. 86
filesystems were taped out of 87 that were dumped. I'm just confused as
to why it didn't finish. If all of the dumps together were only 12.2 GB
there should not have been any problem fitting them on a 20GB tape.
Could someone help me sort this out?
Thanks,
Eric
