John; I've been using gcc-2.96-9x, was -93, for the last build here on
this machine, and probably -95 on the home machine. Both worked fine.
2.95-3 I did use a couple of times for the kernel, but IMO it wasn't
quite as error free during the compile as the later 2.96-9x versions
have been. But I've not built amanda with it.
egcs-1.1.2 worked, but sure pitched a lot of error messages out.
