Yes, you must label the tapes before Amanda can use them. But when I try to label a tape that has not been labeled before, then I get the "Input/output" errors on my ADR30 drive.
Note that the "mt offline" command will not eject a tape from an ADR30 drive. It will rewind the tape, but not eject it.
