What is the exact error message in the amanda mail?  Also, what are your 
dumpcycle, runspercycle, and tapecycle values?

No.  Amanda doesn't append, so you'd be overwriting the backups from last 
night that *did* make it to tape.  Amanda tries very hard not to let you 
do this.
