Note, a separate archive config has its place. One client had a
regulatory requirement to maintain "permanant data backups". He
used a separate config and the tapes were couriered to a secure
data vault.

I used to have an archive config. One use I had for it was before
major changes to a system. I could manually run amdump for those
file system or disks that were going to be affected.

BTW, the traditional style of backups is "possible" with Amanda.
One way is to set the config with a strategy of incremental only.
Then in your in your crontab, for the day you want full backups
you use amdump options to override the normal strategy and to
force full dumps.

She's quite flexible.
