Somenumber and someword could also be applied to the end
of your first sample DLE.  See first, the relevant manpages.

The simple-gnutar-local and the {...} are the dumptype
for that DLE.  Dumptypes are defined in amanda.conf and
can be given a name (ex simple-gnutar-local).  If the
dumptype has not been named in a previous definition,
it can be defined in the braces.
