Which machine?  The server, this machine, is a tarball build, with 
everything in /usr/local/etc/amanda.
There is no /etc/amanda directory on any of my 3 machines being backed up 
nightly.

This did it, but had to add "lathe.coyote.den root amindexd amidxtaped"
to the servers /home/amanda/.amandahosts file.
I now have an amrecover prompt, and should be able to proceed.

I may make an alias setting in the clients /root/bashrc, is that kosher?
