It is to extract /home/gene/src, and home/gene/linuxcnc, and I am now
working in the /home/gene subdir.

It seems to have the correct device

mrecover> sethost coyote
Must clear extract list before changing host
amrecover> settape coyote.coyote.den:Daily
NOTE: 'settape' is deprecated; use setdevice instead.
Using tape "Daily" from server coyote.coyote.den.
amrecover> setdevice coyote.coyote.den
Using tape "coyote.coyote.den".
Tape server unspecified, assumed to be coyote.coyote.den.
amrecover> setdevice coyote.coyote.den:Daily
Using tape "coyote.coyote.den:Daily".
Tape server unspecified, assumed to be coyote.coyote.den.

Me puzzled.
