Hi, the hanging processes are strange, no idea about that.
But I noticed you haven't defined "etimeout" (the time amanda waits for estimate results in seconds) in your amanda.conf. IIRC it defaults to something around 10 min. and that might be too short for the client. Does it help to set etimeout 3600 in amanda.conf? If yes, it's probably a good idea to define "dtimeout" as well and set it to twice or thrice the value of etimeout.
