With every message or only on some?

> run_command: [2848] /usr/local/bin/f-prot -dumb -archive -packed
> /var/amavis/tmp/amavis-20050730T122852-02843/parts </dev/null 2>&1

> run_av: /usr/local/bin/f-prot DIED on signal 11 (008b)

The program f-prot died of segmentation violation (SEGV), which
usually means a programming error in the program.

Does it work if you use the same command interactively as user vscan?
( su vscan -c 'f-prot -dumb -archive -packed some.directory </dev/null' )
Are you running amavisd in chroot?
