I downgraded both file and libmagic1 and had the same problem. However, thanks to your subsequent email, I did get a lot better data from amavisd. Unfortunately, the file is too large to attach to this email. Therefore, I am posting the file to my website, http://www.tux.org/~storm/files/amavisd.log. I hope someone will be able to see what the cause of this problem is.
BTW, Gary, did your Zimbra installation have the same problem with amavis? At this point, unless someone sees something in the logs I'm providing that may give a clue about the problem, I think my options may be to try to reinstall, rebuild the server with sarge or try a forced upgrade.
