'Wavelength' has proved seminal in its influence on UK-based and
world-wide avant-garde film practice. It has been described as simply a
"pure and tough" piece of filmmaking, as an "inexorable reduction" of
cinema, or as the very "horizon of expectation" in film. The film
represents a threshold point for an avant-garde film practice that was
to become known as Structuralist-Materialist filmmaking, and that was to
influence the careers of filmmakers and artists alike - but also affect
the relationship that these have with popular culture.

Wavelength is also famous for its soundtrack which provides a test of
the listener's endurance as the glissando reaches a peak that is ever
full of suspense - a sine wave whose remorseless acceleration presents
the wavelength of the title.

Organised by the Department of Historical and Critical Studies, Glasgow
School of Art, and CCA.
