This will be the second 'paper' to be delivered by The Institute, and will mark the launch of The Institute of Failure website. http://www.institute-of-failure.com Institute of Failure Situated on the ungraspable border between deadpan irony and high seriousness, The Institute of Failure dedicates itself to the documentation, study, and theorisation of failure as it occurs in all aspects of human endeavour. Existing as a website and through occasional live presentations, the Institute of Failure is a think-tank whose concerns may be summed up in the following questions: What is failure? How do things fail? Why do things fail? What is the part of failure in the psychic, cultural and social landscape of human-kind? The project represents the first collaboration between leading members of Forced Entertainment (http://www.forced.co.uk) and Goat Island, two highly respected international performance companies whose work shares many interests, failures and concerns. Matthew Goulish has been a collaborative member of the performance group Goat Island since it began in 1987. His book 39 Microlectures in Proximity of Performance was published by Routledge in 2000. Tim Etchells is artistic director and writer behind Forced Entertainment, 'Britain's most brilliant contemporary theatre company' (Guardian). As well as creating projects in diverse media (performance, video installation, SMS, new media), Etchells has published three books: The Dream Dictionary (for the Modern Dreamer) published in 2001 by Duckworths, Endland Stories published in 1999 by Pulp Books and Certain Fragments, a collection of essays on contemporary performance published in 1999 by Routledge. -- Helen Burgun Marketing Administrator Forced Entertainment The Workstation 46 Shoreham Street Sheffield S1 4SP tel +44 (0114) 279 8977 fax +44 (0114) 221 2170 www.forced.co.uk ------------------------------------------------- a m b i t : networking media arts in scotland post: [EMAIL PROTECTED] info: send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and write "info ambit" in the message body -------------------------------------------------
