I made a project exploring similar ideas, but movement through virtual space, in 1997 - 'Anonymous Drawing Room'. The work traced the user's/viewer's navigation through a website presented by another artist (Reinhold Adt) in an adjacent space. My project translated the users mouse movements into simple line drawings which occurred real time on screen in my exhibition space and online (at whatever time you entered the page you'd get the live drawn movements of the person in the gallery space at that time). In the gallery space the screen would blank and the drawings would print out every 5 minutes and subsequently the drawings were pinned up around the walls.
