Any info on rural spacesyntax? I notice from the spacesyntaxlab that

yeah I haven't seen much on rural areas, betrays funding/policy priorities i suppose! There is some stuff in:

Hanson, J, (1998) Decoding Homes and Houses. Cambridge University Press.

on rural area houses/compounds in rural areas eg Mongolia that you might be interested in

Also a whole bunch of anthropological stuff that looks at the experiencing space/place, a good starting place would be:

Feld, S and Basso,, K. H. (eds) 1996. Senses of Place. School of American Research Press. Santa Fe: NM. (it's in the National Library in Edinburgh if you have access to their collection).

In particular there is a really nice paper in that collection, getting back to the soundscapes idea, the considers the auditory aspects of experiencing place:

Feld S. 1996. Waterfalls of Song: An Acoustemology of Place Resounding in Bosavi, Papua New Guinea pp91-135
