I am suffering with this 'problem' since years ... on one hand side I've got an excellent BLP machine which provides very clean data (at least I think it is), and on the other hand I have one of the best charting software = AB (which I know it is). It's correct that you can get intraday data from BLP into AB with the DDE quite easily, but historical data, which I mainly use, is still a pain. I've adapted one of the BLP VisualBasic example modules to download data from BLP into individual ASCII files which I then import into AB. But it's a tedious process and database maintenance has become a nightmare, especially as my investment universe is hugh as a portfolio manager of globally invested portfolios. Unfortunately I am not smart enough to re-programm one of the C++ API examples available at BLP to do the job and have been thinking of buying some professional programming help - but then again that person would need access to a Bloomberg to get the job done -- aahh, it's all so complicated....

Regards,
André

Re: [amibroker] How to use Bloomberg datasource in Amibroker

I used DDE with Bloomberg or Instiquote (can't really remember which one but it was pretty straightforward) about  6 months ago for a few days and I'm pretty sure the reason I stopped was because it didn't have historical data.  But, remapping the tickers is fairly straightforward and the codes are pretty similar to those you'd see if you do a lot of spreadsheet calls from the blp API.

Depending on what reason you're using Amibroker, even though you're shelling out $1,750 plus exchange fees per month, it might just be better to use 15-min delayed Yahoo data (even have it update every 5 minutes "automatically" using Amiquote), or use one of the supported systems like eSignal (which costs you more money but probably saves you a lot of time).

Does anyone know whether it is possible to use Bloomberg as
dataprovider? It seems there is no plug-in for it but perhaps one can
do it with DDE?
Anyone having experience how well this works?
