I have been experimenting with powerfolder (powerfolder.com) -- it's 
free, it works between multiple machines.
For example, I have 3 machines - two on a LAN, one across the internet, 
and I sync my ami data folder between the machines.
When I update quotes, watchlist, or whatever, it detects those changes 
and sends the changed data to the other machines.
By the time I get to the other machine, it is up to date...
