I did not say I "hate color" -- I said I think the color codes
introduced as a hack by Khaled Mardham-Bey in mIRC were very
poorly considered, badly implemented and VERY frequently abused.
And, as someone else pointed out -- I use color to code the
*type* of message coming through on IRC -- server messages and
the like that I consider of low priority are colored on my set up
to largely "blend away" against my background color; items of
importance are colored to stand out. This is a *USEFUL*
application of color, unlike the mIRC-derived color codes.

...in which case the person so impaired needs to be able to set
the colors to what they find most legible and not have some silly
twit *changing* them for no particular reason.
Try reading for *content*, rather than for your own biases.
