As with many Johnson and other products, loss of the plate switch or others 
can be a real mess, both in locating the replacement part and the actual 
replacement thereof. I have used a relay to bypass the heavy contact current in 
these switches so that the contacts only handle the coil current in the relay.  
There is plenty or room in the Viking II to do this and the relay coil can me 
any of several voltages, depending on what you might have in the junk box. If 
you don't have a relay, they can be found cheap at hamfests and in some 
catalogs.  You just need to be sure that the contact arrangement is correct for 
the 
intended application.

In the case of the V II, you might consider installing the PTT option while 
you are about it.

General Cement used to make a tool to tighten the knurled panel nut without 
damaging the panel. The part number is 6C9359. I don't know if it is still 
available, but they are priceless if you can find one.
