As with many Johnson and other products, loss of the plate switch or others can be a real mess, both in locating the replacement part and the actual replacement thereof. I have used a relay to bypass the heavy contact current in these switches so that the contacts only handle the coil current in the relay. There is plenty or room in the Viking II to do this and the relay coil can me any of several voltages, depending on what you might have in the junk box. If you don't have a relay, they can be found cheap at hamfests and in some catalogs. You just need to be sure that the contact arrangement is correct for the intended application.
In the case of the V II, you might consider installing the PTT option while you are about it. General Cement used to make a tool to tighten the knurled panel nut without damaging the panel. The part number is 6C9359. I don't know if it is still available, but they are priceless if you can find one. 73, John, W4AWM
