Perhaps if this user is new to Linux, they are not used to looking up information on how to compile something.
If we want this application to be easy for the user, we should carefully describe how to perform actions. Instead of: "You can't load TkCximage, this in now needed for to run AMSN. You can compile it with the makefile inside amsn folder". Tell them: "You can't load TkCximage, this in now needed for to run aMSN. You can compile it by entering your aMSN folder, and issuing the command: ./configure;make (aMSN folder could even be made more specific) We must make everything as clear as possible. Simply telling the user to RTFA, RTFM will not help... Of course we hope that all users would read the documents, faq, wiki, etc. before using aMSN, but that's not always the case. A new Linux user doesn't want to use their Windows operating system anymore, but still wants to use their msn to talk to their friends. They don't want to mess around reading how to set something up, they want to click something or enter one command, login with their username and password, and start chatting. I think we need to be careful on how we are addressing these questions in the forum. New documents and faqs will be available soon, but until that time, we'll have to deal with these questions which seem quite elementary, and reply to them in a professional manner so that we are not losing users. Something to think about.... ~Lee On 11/16/05, SourceForge.net <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Read and respond to this message at: > https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=3430273 > By: germinator2000 > > Welll??!!! > > You can compile it with the makefile inside amsn folder > > You compiled it or you just stoped reading after the first 3 words? > > ______________________________________________________________________ > You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. > To stop monitoring this forum, login to SourceForge.net and visit: > https://sourceforge.net/forum/unmonitor.php?forum_id=180132 > ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the JBoss Inc.
