NO VOTE FOR THIS, it should stay consistent with the official client..
what if you have the nick bold instead, users will ask why the psm
shows
before.. we'll get "hey, amsn inverted psm and nick, it's a bug"..
don't
think about yourself, think about the users.. + most of the time, you
say
"it would be nice", but once it's done, I'm sure you'll say "arghh..
no,
it's ugly, I'll revert to how it was before", then we introduced poor
users questioning themself what the hell is happening + added options
for
nothing + lost time coding/discussing the subject!
LOL!!! I was just kidding when writing 'If using bold at all, then I'd
vote
for having bold nick and non-bold PSM :-P' So, no vote indeed, and no
nick in
bold. What I was saying all the time was: It's the nick that counts (It
'identifies a contact' from the user point of view. The PSM belongs to
that
user too, but is not identifying, so it should appear as 'less
important' so
I don't think it's logic to show it bold.
loool, ok, I didn't get it, I guess because I was in a rush! anyways,
good! about nick being bold/more important.. not sure! usually, you'll
have a contact who's 100% of the time with the same nick, then his PSM
will show important info like "in the shower" or "tomorrow is my
birthday", etc... so PSM is important.. + PSM means personnal message.. so
it's a message for everyone to read! so I do think PSMs are more important
(usually, all the fancy nicks with huge quotes and non-understandable
things are in the nick, not the PSM)
But I never saw the thing in M$N. I never use Windows, except at work,
where I
am not allowed to use MSN. So I can't think of 'we should do it that way,
because M$N has it that way.' Also I think its not a crime to be better
than
the original. ;-)
Okay, just to be sure. Did I get it right from what you wrote that M$N
shows
PSM in bold and appended to the nick? If so, I'm really glad I am not the
designer of that. I would be ashamed if I was....
yeah, same on original, it's in bold, for now, apart from nick truncation
(which is buggy on amsn for now), we replicate the exact same look as M$N,
nick is "$nick ($status) - <b><i>$psm</i></b>"
yes, we should be better than the original, but yet, I think that $nick
($status) - <bi $psm/>" thing is great, perfect way to show it...
also, we could be better.. but we're still the entrypoint to linux for
most win32 users.. so we should give them something they are familiar
with, they don't want to be lost when opening the program.. if they wanted
that, they would use gaim instead!
about being ashamed.. well I guess he should be ashamed for working for
M$, that's one thing.. but the design is pretty good imho.. I like it this
way, wayyy better than how it was before!
