I understand we should stay close to the original, so newbies will feel
familiar. But we'd also like them to say: 'wow, it's even better!'. For
example, when I started using aMSN (long time ago. somewhere near release
0.81) I was very pleased to see smileys shown on the contact list, while M$N
just showed them as text.

So with PSM, let's stick to bold+italic to have it familiar (yeah, I'm finally
giving in ;-)), and solve the single problem that remains: unless you have
contacts with very short nicks, or you like to have the CL very big, the PSM
is always hidden on the CL! I think showing the PSM below $nick ($status) is
the only solution to that.

Another thing is, why isn't the psm shown with a custom nick? Isn't a custom
nick just to replace the nick? Of course I can include $psm in the custom
nick, but that will make the psm appear not bold+italic and before the
status.

I suggest doing it this way:
- Remove the Global nick setting
- Remove 'Show email on contactlist instead of nick' option
- Have a new setting how a contact should be referenced in the top of a chat
window. With '$nick <$email> ($status)' being the best default IMO.
- Have a new setting how a contact should be referenced in the CL, with the
current behaviour to be default: '$nick ($status) - $psm'. (And me setting it
to '$nick ($status)\n$psm' of course)
- In both of them, have $nick being replaced by the custom nick if one is set
for that contact, otherwise the real nick.
- Always have the PSM shown bold+italic.

No need to say I guess, but anyway: the suggestions to remove global nick and
'show email on cl' are just because those two options become unnecessary when
the other things are done.
