Hi... looks like very few developers are interested in this issue... so, I'm writing a clean summary of it, hoping that it will make easier to get opinions.
Subject: Custom DP - Supposed behavior and features (from an end-user viewpoint) of the user display pictures tab (in the contact properties screen) --- Current Implementation --- The user DPs tab shows a "selector" dpbrowser, with a preview box and a set of buttons to interact with the selected image. Pros: * Everything about user DPs is inside that tab Cons: * When setting a custom DP to a user, you can only choose among that user's cached DP * It's not easily visible if a custom DP has been set on a user * For consistence with other "custom" options, the custom DP setting should be in the "settings" tab --- Alternative 1 --- The custom DP setting is implemented through change/remove buttons in the settings tab, with a preview only if a custom DP is set (same behavior as the custom color). The user DPs tab only contains a dpbrowser with the cached DPs, in "viewonly" mode (no interaction) Pros: * custom DP consistent with other "custom" settings * Full featured dpbrowser for custom DP selection Cons: * A dpbrowser must be opened to be able to delete (or copy to clipboard) a cached display picture --- Alternative 2 --- The custom DP setting is implemented through change/remove buttons in the settings tab, with a preview only if a custom DP is set (same behavior as the custom color). The user DPs tab only contains a dpbrowser with the cached DPs, in "properties" mode (popup menus) Pros: * custom DP consistent with other "custom" settings * Full featured dpbrowser for custom DP selection Cons: Feel free to add other alternatives, or to add more pros/cons.
