Hi, just a question to get everyone's advice... We released 0.97, congrats to everyone who worked on this, it looks like it's a hit! :) But, we've got a few annoying bugs people are getting, mainly : 1 - mac users are getting loads of problems.. the package had no unicode support (we knew about it and we chose no unicode vs. better stability), a package with unicode support was also released but intel users have a lot of bugs with it. Tom H. is trying to get 8.5 to compile to see if it will be more stable (8.5 seems to have unicode support). 2 - there was a bug with the preferences window crashing (fixed) 3 - there was a bug with the audio assistant crashing (fixed) 4 - there was a bug for a LOT of people with receiving OIMs making the whole system crash (fixed.. hopefully).. the bug was because we kept trying to focus all the windows, and it would freeze switching focus from one to another forever.
These bugs seem to be major, but not critical, I said previously that 0.97 would be the last release of the 0.x branch of aMSN (it's weird noone answered to that thread...?) but maybe all these little fixes deserve a 0.97.1 release... I'm thinking of maybe releasing it in a month or two, maybe start or end of february, this way we get enough time to receive new bug reports and fix them, as well as leave those poor users who just downloaded the latest version have enough time to enjoy it before having to download yet another version... So I'm asking you, what do you think? Should we release it or leave it like that ? Btw, the poll seems to be popular, main features requested are offline messaging and audio chat.. we always knew audio chat was the big think people wanted.. and guess what, I was able to make it work recently, but it would require a huge load of additional dependencies, I'm taking of making them weak dependencies (if you have them, then good, otherwise, the feature is disabled). Also, we can only send an audio invite, not receive one, this is my current limitation. Do you think it's worth it adding it, or better not to add something like that at this point ? Finally, I took a quick look to msnpiki, and it seems the only difference between MSNP12 and MSNP13 so far is the SOAP request to get the contact list, I think we refactored a lot of stuff that could allow us to do this efficiently, do you think it's worth it to spend some time implementing MSNP13 (or MSNP15 which is almost the same) in order to get a 0.98 release that has better support of the protocol ? or just let aMSN 0.x die with MSNP12 and leave the MSNP15+ protocols to the aMSN 2 branch only ? In short, my question is : we want to work on aMSN 2, but are there any people out there who would like to keep maintaining the 0.x branch even though the 2.x branch is being worked on ? Are there people who are interested in continuing to develop in Tcl/Tk and do not want to learn/code in the new language we chose for aMSN 2 (language not revealed at this time, but yes, it will not be tcl/tk) ? I hope whoever answers will answer everything as I don't want this thread to focus on one of my questions and my other questions are forgotten. To summarize what I'm looking for : 1 - Do you want a 0.97.1 bugfix release soon ? 2 - Do you think adding audio chat feature would be wise ? 3 - Do you want to keep maintaining the 0.x branch ? 4 - Do you want to add MSNP15 support to aMSN 0.x ?
