Readers may like to know the outcome of this. Anyway, I'd like to put it on
record in case someone else has the same problem. :)
It turned out that he also had REQINCLUDE filename in operation. The problem
is that after the args had been added to the filename, it didn't match any
more. So he actually needed
REQINCLUDE filename?*
instead of (or even better, as well as)
REQINCLUDE filename
This is extremely unintuitive, and I'm going to see what I can do about it.
