DNS lookups are turned off. I had contemplated hand creation of the DNSCACHE
file. Would using the dns lookup instead of hostalias improve performance?

Have you considered using a local DNS or hosts file and do a DNS WRITE, so
that the entries get cached, rather than using HOSTALIAS?

Not sure if that'll improve your performance, but thought that could be
another way to go if it doesn't affect other performance considerations.

Subject: [analog-help] HOSTALIAS and performance

I routinely run several analog reports. I recently modified the
configuration files to include a much larger number (~4000, instead of
~200)
of HOSTALIAS commands.

After this, it seems that analog performance has degraded by a factor of 20.
Can anyone provide any insight?

Background details:
Our logfiles have IP addresses in. The HOSTALIAS commands are like:

HOSTALIAS 122.232.*.* HOSTA
HOSTALIAS 122.36.240.83 HOSTB
HOSTALIAS 122.34.170.128 HOSTC
HOSTALIAS 122.34.170.129 HOSTC
HOSTALIAS 122.34.170.130 HOSTC
HOSTALIAS 122.34.170.131 HOSTC
HOSTALIAS 122.34.170.132 HOSTC
HOSTALIAS 122.34.170.133 HOSTC

etc... (ip and hostnames changed, but note that there are consecutive number
ranges for a set of ip addresses to map to a single host alias).

Thanks, Adrian
