I used to use QuickDNS on desktop on my win2000 desktop connected via a very fast ethernet to its private hub (administrative oversite) in the university computing department, but it still wasn't that fast. Then I started running "dnstran" on the unix servers in the department and it ran MUCH faster. (also, dnstran is better because will rewrite logs with the results of the dnslookup). I did try using alternative DNS servers with QuickDNS, but they didn't have much effect. So I'm writing this post, in case you're in the same position as I was... Incidentally, I found that QuickDNS would result in a corrupt dnscache every now and then, because some naughty machines had illegal hostnames with spaces in them. QuickDNS would take them at their word, put spaces in the dnscache file, and analog would complain. I wrote a helper app to remove these entries. On the analog.cx helper app page. -- Lucian +------------------------------------------------------------------------ | TO UNSUBSCRIBE from this list: | http://lists.isite.net/listgate/analog-help/unsubscribe.html | | Digest version: http://lists.isite.net/listgate/analog-help-digest/ | Usenet version: news://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.web.analog.general | List archives: http://www.analog.cx/docs/mailing.html#listarchives +------------------------------------------------------------------------
