No - altering the LOGFORMAT makes no difference. I've checked the internal structure, and we use the extended format - here's a fairly typical first few lines from a log : #Software: Microsoft Internet Information Services 5.0 #Version: 1.0 #Date: 2005-12-01 02:00:09 #Fields: date time c-ip cs-username cs-method cs-uri-stem cs-uri-query sc-status sc-bytes cs-bytes time-taken cs(User-Agent) cs(Cookie) 2005-12-01 02:00:09 172.16.240.37 - OPTIONS / - 401 4644 171 16 Microsoft+Data+Access+Internet+Publishing+Provider+Cache+Manager - 2005-12-01 02:00:09 172.16.240.37 CYC\rarprms OPTIONS / - 200 467 401 16 Microsoft+Data+Access+Internet+Publishing+Provider+Cache+Manager - 2005-12-01 02:00:09 172.16.240.37 CYC\rarprms PROPFIND /documents - 207 1118 260 0 Microsoft+Data+Access+Internet+Publishing+Provider+DAV+1.1 -
- you probably spot this is from the 1st December 05 ;) when I process this (+ others within December), the first / last dates reported are across the year. here's the relevant lines from my cfg file: LOGFORMAT MS-EXTENDED LOGFILE M:\logs\councilnet\W3SVC5\query\ex*.log #LOGFORMAT MS-EXTENDED OUTPUT COMPUTER OUTFILE Report.dat HOSTNAME "councilnet" HOSTURL "http://intranet.york.gov.uk/" # # You probably don't need to change anything below this until you are # experienced. # FROM 051201:0001 TO 051231:2359 I've tried using MICROSOFT-NA , -INT and MS-EXTENDED with the same result -----Original Message----- From: Stephen Turner [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 02 March 2006 10:24 To: Support for analog web log analyzer Subject: Re: [analog-help] Problems with dates in reports On Wed, 1 Mar 2006, Brereton, Stephen wrote: > Don't know if this is an issue with Reportmagic, so I'll start here. > > I'm generating usage reports from IIS5 logs, usually specifying a from/to > pair of a couple of months during the year. > When the report is output by reportmagic, the first thing I notice is that > the year-level activity graph shows each month of the year being involved in > the stats. > I can only figure that its reading the date somehow transposed? > Your diagnosis is probably correct. It's easiest just to explain what's going on. IIS logs are stupid because they put the date in local date format -- e.g. 2/3/2006 in Europe and 3/2/2006 in the U.S. -- with no indication which was used. Now if the logfile starts on or after the 13th of the month, analog can tell which format was used, and does the right thing. But if it starts on or before the 12th of the month, analog can't know, and so gives up. In this case, you have to specify LOGFORMAT MICROSOFT-NA (for North American dates) or LOGFORMAT MICROSOFT-INT (for international dates). My guess is that you specified -NA but wanted -INT. -- Stephen Turner, Cambridge, UK http://homepage.ntlworld.com/adelie/stephen/ "Low Priced Cambridge Clare College. Big selection at eBay UK!"
