Thanks Jerry for your kind help and direction. I have found out that
the problem was not so much to do with which Windows Services were
running in the background, because I soon realised that the core OS
for the Android Emulator is Java. It now makes sense to me why the
Java 5/6 runtime libraries are a required specification before Adroid
will work. The reason I found this out the hard way was due to me
listening to other developers who said that one should be able to run
the Emulator and SDK on its own "without Eclipse"! I have found that
this is not true for my XP SP2 machine. I did try running the Emulator
from the command line, but it seems that nothing decided to work
unless Eclispe was installed and running with the Android Developement
plugin installed!
