Once you convince non-programmers that they are programmers, the quality of the apps decreases significantly. Microsoft was, at one time, a master of this approach (VB, VBA, button clicking programming GUI's) and it was extremely successful in driving adoption among the masses.
App Inventor would be great for kids to pick up Android programming but enabling more beginners to start pushing half-baked apps into the Android Market....
