Depending on when you got your Droid (or the ROM image on it), it might not support ES 2.0. See http://www.rbgrn.net/content/345-hands-on-motorola-droid-opengl-es-specs for details (though dated 10/28/2009); it was not supported as of 11/08/2009 (see Ginsburg's comment).
