The Tab is actually a great example of why Android's openness is a good
thing, because you couldn't just build the stock platform and drop it on
such a device and have a shippable product.  Many parts of the current
platform and app UIs just aren't prepared to run on a larger screen.  But
somebody else can take Android and make that happen, and at the end of the
day have a pretty great product (which I think the Tab is).
