How much does a patent cost anyway?

Silly to patent an idea that will generate a few hundred or thousands
of dollars of the patent costs more... I don't know, but If I patent
something in the US, what prevents someone in China to create a
knockoff? A worldwide patent for an Android app sounds just silly...
