I'd just like to voice in about desktop sync. The whole idea behind Android in my mind is that it syncs with your Google Apps. If you want desktop sync, you don't want to do it with the phone. What you really want to do is sync your desktop with Google Apps (and it will automatically get to the phone as-is). For example, Google Calendar sync allows you to do a 2-way sync with Exchange and Google Calendar. I use it all the time and love it. People have been complaining that they can't sync Android with their Exchange calendar, but they can. Just install Calendar Sync on your work PC, and then it will be available on the web as well as your phone. What we need has nothing to do with Android, we just need more apps like Google Calendar sync to cover contacts, to-do, and e-mail.
As for pictures, I believe they will be auto uploaded (or at least easily uploaded) to Picassa Web. I know people like Flicker and all, but this is the Google phone. Expect it to sync with Google Apps first. Flicker will come in time, but Picassa should be there from the start. The #1 question for me about Android is: will there be Visual Voice mail? Contacts, Voice Mail, and e-mail all synced with your GMail Inbox... Thats what I want most of all. To be able to listen to your phone messages through GMail... that is game-changing. I'm also hoping GTalk is live and full featured (just as responsive as the desktop app, allows file-transfer, and allows voice-calling just like the desktop app does). If GTalk does allow IM-to-IM voice chat, that gets us all Skype like VoIP as well by using GTalk2VoIP.com or Splinter.net type services. As for bookmark syncing with FireFox... again, think Google! I use the Google toolbar in FireFox for all my bookmarks. Why? Because my Google-Toolbar bookmarks are available on any PC and in any browser (IE or FF) that has the Google Toolbar installed. Can you even "sync" FF bookmarks with a different FF on a different PC? Even if you can, I doubt it is automated like Google Toolbar. I need to be able to save a bookmark as I'm walking out the door from work, and have it already waiting for me on my home PC as soon as I walk in. Google Toolbar allows that (as well as a better spell check than FF and the auto-link button to change any address to a link to Google maps). I was very disappointed that Chrome lacks all that Google Toolbar functionality. Hopefully the G1 version will automatically use your Google Toolbar bookmarks. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Android Discuss" group.
