I agree with using the iPhone apps as an example. Given the popularity of iPhone apps, you can probably find a comparable app on the iPhone for your Android app, so I would charge around that price. It also depends on the relative competition for your app. If there are 3 iPhone apps that does the same thing but there's only one Android app, you may be able to charge a bit more.
One other way to figure out the pricing is to actually test with multiple price points. We just launched a shareware framework and billing system for Android developers called Mogees. You can use it to make your app "shareware" - free for X days or Y uses. You can easily change these parameters as well as your price depending on the usage numbers and payment conversion, Once the trial period is over, Android users will be prompted to pay for the app via PayPal or credit card.
