I'm hoping that most of the apps will go free and open source eventually. I see a lot of apps being charged for right away, but when the open source free version of the app gets developed by someone else the community will most likely shift to it as well.
Look at the PC software landscape. All of the free and open source software we enjoy today used to be very expensive in the past. I'm all for that kind of ecosystem, where the paid apps have to constantly improve to maintain the benefits of paying for the app, while the open source alternatives compete. Have there been any open source only app stores announced yet? I think this whole "app store" mentality creates a great opportunity for development communities to grow.
