I believe I heard one of the team members of Google Transit mention
they are working on something involving mobile handsets and Google
Transit. As always, it'll be done when it's done and announced at the
release. Perhaps check in at
http://groups.google.com/group/transit-developers
where some of the Web 2.0 transit crowd hangs out. I am also working
on a project which builds on the web service offered by TriMet in
Portland, OR. I guess you'll have to hang in there a few more months
and you'll see public transportation apps coming out, or at least
decent web sites which are better than just marginal when used from a
mobile handset.
